Biomechanical Evaluation of Rotator Cuff Repair Complex: Single vs. Double Row Repair

ثبت نشده
چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Current rotator cuff repairs have a high incidence of asymptomatic defects [1]. Researchers have quantified that current repairs only restore a maximum of 67% of the original footprint of the rotator cuff [2]. Recently, double row suture anchors repair techniques have been reported that could re-establish the footprint of the rotator cuff [3,4]. Reports have shown that the biomechanical properties increase with the addition of another row of anchors [5]; but have only evaluated isolated portions of the tendon and not evaluated the overall rotator cuff complex. Therefore, the objective of our study was to investigate the response of the rotator cuff complex after single and double row repair to both cyclic loading and failure along with quantifying the restoration of the original rotator cuff footprint.

Incidence of retear with double-row versus single-row rotator cuff repair.

Rotator cuff tears have a high recurrence rate, even after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Although some biomechanical evidence suggests the superiority of the double-row vs the single-row technique, clinical findings regarding these methods have been controversial. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the double-row repair method results in a lower incidence of recurrent tearin...

Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Biomechanical Comparison of Single Row and Suture-Bridge Tendon Repair Constructs

INTRODUCTION: Rotator cuff tears are a very common source of pain and loss of function of the shoulder. As arthroscopic instrumentation and repair techniques have evolved, many studies have demonstrated success in repairing rotator cuff tears using these arthroscopic techniques alone compared with an open repair method. Despite these successful clinical outcomes, both open and arthroscopic rota...

Biomechanical performance of rotator cuff repairs with humeral rotation: a new rotator cuff repair failure model.

BACKGROUND Traditional biomechanical evaluations of rotator cuff repair techniques employ cyclic loading of the supraspinatus tendon in an isolated medial direction. PURPOSE This study was conducted to evaluate 2 different rotator cuff repair techniques that are currently the subject of debate with cyclic loading and with internal and external humeral rotation to better simulate postoperative...

Single-row versus double-row rotator cuff repair: techniques and outcomes.

Double-row rotator cuff repair techniques incorporate a medial and lateral row of suture anchors in the repair configuration. Biomechanical studies of double-row repair have shown increased load to failure, improved contact areas and pressures, and decreased gap formation at the healing enthesis, findings that have provided impetus for clinical studies comparing single-row with double-row repai...

Meta-analysis of Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes After Arthroscopic Single-Row Versus Double-Row Rotator Cuff Repair

CONTEXT Double-row rotator cuff repair methods have improved biomechanical performance when compared with single-row repairs. OBJECTIVE To review clinical outcomes of single-row versus double-row rotator cuff repair with the hypothesis that double-row rotator cuff repair will result in better clinical and radiographic outcomes. DATA SOURCES Published literature from January 1980 to April 20...
